Why I've been absent ...
First, forgive me if this is just a bunch of rambling, it's late and I should be sleeping. As usual, that isn't happening easily.
I know I haven't been posting much, if at all. Primarily, that is because I just don't like it here. Neither does my husband (the school is fine, the area not so much). We're literally counting down the days until he's done with this school. Less than 100 days and we still don't know where we're headed and won't for another month or so. Par for the course, I'm sure.
Jobs are hard to come by here and if you do come by them, they're minimum wage. The city is dingy and appears to be a lot of low income type areas until you go at least 10 exits away from the base on the highway. We decided that I'd just try to focus on my photography while we were here and that was initially fine with me. Lately I've contemplated picking up a job for the holiday season, but that won't really work with his leave schedule over the holidays. Even the job offer from the vet clinic today sounded good for a moment. Ironically, now that I have all this time on my hands, I'm not seeing much that I want to photograph, I think because of my contempt for the area. Nice circle, huh?
The days are long. I purposely sleep in and spend way too much time on the internet to try to quell the boredom. What is there to write about then? Not much.
See? I warned you there'd be rambling! I'm just ready for whatever is next, I suppose. I'm restless. This limbo crap isn't any fun without roller skates. I'm sure I'll be around more as we get closer to another PCS. In the meantime, I hope all of you are doing well and am wishing you a very happy Thanksgiving.

Happy birthday, USMC!
I just wanted to send out a Happy Birthday to all Marines.
It's the 233rd birthday of the Marine Corps today!
We attended the Birthday Ball of a reserve unit about two hours away on Saturday. It was a small ball and we only knew a handful of folks, so we wound up leaving with a group and heading to a club in town. It's been a long time since I enjoyed myself at a club, but this one was quite decent and not overly skeezy. The four plus drinks I'd had probably helped, too.
I'm such a lightweight, I can't remember the last time I drank that much! But it was a blast, so I guess that's all that matters right?
Anyway, here's the one decent pic we managed to get of us. We posed for the professional shots at the ball itself, but we obviously don't have that one quite yet.

Sushi
Do you like sushi? I find folks either love it or hate it. Unfortunately, I've developed a great fondness for it.
Our checking account isn't happy about this.
Fortunately, I found something easy to make at home when I'm craving some sushi style food.
I did make some adjustments. I nixed the tofu and substituted smoked salmon instead (the commissary was out of the ahi tuna I wanted). I added some cucumbers and extra nori. I also made a wasabi dressing with soy sauce, wasabi, rice vinegar, sugar and sesame oil which gave it the perfect touch. Yum!
Any favorite recipes to share? I've been in the mood to cook this week!
