Our Story
I'm late, I know. Darn PCS has been keeping me busy!
But, since I've cheated and written most of it out before, I thought I'd throw this post up, for Loqi. ![]()
In truth, we don't have any lovely romantic story to tell about how we met. We were the quintessential example of the times. That's right, we met on the internet.
Match.com, to be exact.
I was looking to meet new people in the area and he'd had a profile up for a while but hadn't done much with it since it was based in his home town instead of this area. It worked out perfectly in my head - I didn't want anything serious and he lived five hours away and was an active duty Marine - no chance for attachment. We could just have fun whenever he was in town visiting family. Little did I know ...
He was coming into town to help celebrate his brother's 21st birthday on the weekend of March 3rd, so he told me he wasn't sure he'd have time to see me that weekend. I thought I'd give it a shot, and sent him a text message anyway. He found some time after all, and I squeezed him into my weekend schedule which already had two dates on the books.
Here is the rest of our first date story, written on the first anniversary of that day.
He deployed for the fourth time a little over two months later. It was a trial by fire for me, I suppose.
By that time I was head over heels and he'd even uttered the 'L' word before I had, so we were just letting things take their course.
We're now a little over a year into our marriage with two deployments down and about to move twice in the next six months. I suppose the Corps thinks I need some more indoctrination! Marine Wife had an aptly timed post up when I opened my RSS reader today. "Why? What for? How come? You may think it is because she has lost her mind. But actually it is because she has lost her heart." I may not enjoy some portions of this life, but I'll never regret being blindsided by this particular Marine.
